Equipment Used in Home Brewing.
For any person who appreciates good beer, they can tell good brewed beer and that which has not met the cut. For quality beer you have to ensure that you have the best equipment . For many who wish to brew their own beer they might have a hard time with where to start. Sourcing the equipment needed to brew your own beer at home is easy and not as costly and difficult as you might imagine it.
The first equipment to have to start brewing with malt extract is the boiling kettle which should be strong enough to handle the task. Most of the times the boiling kettles will be full of hot liquid and this means they should have insulated handles to enable ease when lifting . The brewing process makes use of certain temperatures and this makes it necessary to have some monitoring mechanisms, a thermometer .
A brewing thermometer will be exposed to very high temperatures and therefore it needs to be made of quality materials so as to be efficient on the job. Adding yeast to a very hot brew kills it and on the other hand low temperatures are not going to make the yeast active hence one should aim for medium temperatures. Steel stirring spoons long enough are needed to help in the stirring of brew, wooden spoons are prone to bacteria and therefore not ideal. After brewing the beer it needs to be fermented and hence the need for a fermenter .
Fermenters exist in different types but the most common one and simple is the plastic bucket type. It’s a legal requirement to know the strength of alcohol hence the need to have a hydrometer, the gadget measures the density of the brew. Once the fermentation process is complete, one will need to transfer the beer into a bottling bucket and through the use of a plastic hose connected to a siphon put the beer into bottles. You will need a bottle caper for putting the caps on the bottles now that bottling is the last step in the home brewing process.
Sediments may be there when transferring the beer from the boiling kettle to a fermenter hence the need for a strainer which helps in ridding the sediments. All through the entire process it’s important to remember bacteria destroys the beer or the brew. Its important to have sanitization equipment and agents as well to ensure you are using clean equipment. Intensive cleaning of the brewing equipment should be performed after each brew, one should make sure any equipment ha touches the brew has been cleaned not leaving out the bottles and bottle caps. The way you store your brewing equipment matters , storage should be in a way that there are no contamination. Beer at the end of a long day is relaxing ,homemade beer is even better.
